How Much Coffee You Drink May Be Genetically Determined

Description

Coffee consumption may be in the genes. According to Science News, researchers say in the August 25th edition of Scientific Reports that activity of a gene that lowers levels of caffeine-degrading enzymes in the liver is associated with how much coffee people drink. The more active the gene, called PDSS2, the less coffee people drank. Researchers tracked the coffee-drinking habits of people in remote Italian villages and people from the Netherlands.
