"History will rightly remember today's violence at the Capitol, incited by a sitting president who has continued to baselessly lie about the outcome of a lawful election, as a moment of great dishonor and shame for our nation," Obama said. Obama called on Republicans to cease their support for Trump's effort to overturn the 2020 election result. He added that they must "choose America" according to Business Insider.

Noticeably absent from the list is his own memoir "A Promised Land" which hit bookstores last month. Isabel Wilkerson's "Caste," made the list, as did Brit Bennett's "The Vanishing Half". C Pam Zhang's "How Much of These Hills is Gold" was also picked by the former president for his list of favorites. According to CNN, "Long Bright River" by Liz Moore, and "Memorial Drive" by Natasha Trethewey are also included in the picks.

Obama has made millions from speaking engagements and his best-selling books. His latest memoir, "A Promised Land," was published in November 2020. It sold nearly 890,000 copies within 24 hours of its release.
