Parents Blasted With Unhealthy Baby Food Ads

Description

A new study shows ads for baby and toddler foods often go against the nutritional advice of health experts. Researchers found that in 2015, companies spent $77 million in the United States on marketing foods for infants and toddlers. According to the researchers, the good news is that the majority of those products were nutritious choices, such as pureed fruits and vegetables, whole grains and dairy products.

  • Colombian Shops Display Breastfeeding Mannequins to Tackle Stigma

Retail mannequins are sometimes used to send messages to the public, like the plus sized mannequins which were used to raise body awareness. Shoppers walking through Bogota's largest mall were surprised to see breast-feeding mannequins in the windows of their favourite clothing shops over the past weekend as part of an initiative to change attitudes about breast feeding in public. Shop assistants put a "baby" mannequin in the arms of a "mother" mannequin, mimicking the act of a mother feeding her baby. The breast-feeding mannequin campaign was launched by the "Friends of Breast-feeding" organisation. They are set to be on display throughout the whole of April, aiming to raise awareness of the right of mothers to breast-fed their children in public places. Although 47 out of 50 states in America fully protect breast feeding moms, attitudes toward breast-feeding remain negative in many places, with mothers being told to cover up or even leave when breastfeeding. Advocates of public breastfeeding claim that it's simply a biological necessity - babies can get hungry anywhere and breastfeeding allows nursing moms to feed their infant on the go. What do you think about public breast feeding?
