US - Third night of protests over police shooting of a black man in Charlotte

Description

Demonstrators chanted "release the tape" and "we want the tape" while briefly blocking an intersection near Bank of America headquarters and later climbing the steps in front of the city government center. Later, several dozen demonstrators climbed onto an interstate highway through the city, but they were pushed back by police in riot gear.

    Citizens of Charlotte continued to take to the streets in response to the fatal police shooting of unarmed African American Keith Scott on Tuesday after a week of protests have rocked the city after the release of full police dash-cam and body-cam footage of Lamont’s death. A march and a candlelight vigil were held to honour the deceased 43-year-old, as well as protester Justin Carr, who was shot dead during demonstrations against Scotts’ killing in unconfirmed circumstances. The previous scale of protests and riots in response to the shooting prompted North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory to deploy the National Guard and declare a state of emergency, which has since been rescinded.

    Dozens of protesters marched through the streets of Charlotte on Sunday, for the sixth day running following the fatal police shooting of a 43-year-old black man named Keith Lamont Scott. The National Guards as well as police were deployed to secure the area, including a helicopter, riot police on buses, as well as officers on bicycles and golf cars. At least one person was arrested during the peaceful protest and activists were forced to march on the sidewalk as they made their way to the city centre.
