As McLaren marks its 60th anniversary, the supercar maker has teamed up with the LEGO Group to release the first-ever double pack of LEGO Speed Champions featuring two of McLaren's most iconic supercars: the McLaren F1 LM and McLaren Solus GT.Both LEGO creations pay homage to McLaren's technical innovation and design language with authentic details from the real-life cars, including the Papaya Orange colour of the F1 LM, its central driving seat position, and cooling ducts.Born from a virtual gaming world concept, the Solus GT - also with its striking central single-seat cockpit design and high-downforce rear wing - is a perfect addition for any McLaren supercar enthusiast. The 581-piece set also features two LEGO minifigure drivers in their his and hers McLaren ‘race suits’.Sixty years ago, New Zealand-born racer, engineer and visionary Bruce McLaren set-up the racing team in England that remains one of the world’s most successful names in motorsport. McLaren is the only team to have won the ‘Triple Crown of Motorsport’ with race victories in the Monaco Grand Prix, Indianapolis 500 and Le Mans 24 Hours. In the 1960s, Bruce himself unveiled the M6GT, the first ever McLaren supercar.
McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has completed a unique new #Mclaren P1 GTR bespoke project to mark the 30th anniversary of Ayrton Senna’s maiden Formula 1 World Championship. The striking Mclaren P1 GTR is liveried in the iconic colours of then-sponsor Marlboro - synonymous with Mclaren for more than 20 years – as they appeared on the MP4/4 that propelled him to the first of three F1 titles. The car was commissioned by a Mclaren collector who was inspired by Ayrton Senna from a young age and wanted to create a tribute that echoed the Brazilian’s trademark perfectionism. Working in close collaboration with the MSO team over the past three years the owner oversaw every detail of the project, resulting in a car worthy of Senna himself.
The McLaren Senna GTR was unveiled to the public at the Geneva International Motor Show in the Palexpo convention centre on Tuesday. Inspired by Formula 1 icon Ayrton Senna, the $1million supercar is made of lightweight carbon fibre and comes in five colours, including the same yellow and green scheme used by Senna. Each Senna GTR takes over 1,000 hours to produce, which contributes to the eye-watering price tag.
McLaren revealed its much-anticipated new Formula 1 car. The striking MCL33 will contest the 2018 FIA Formula 1 World Championship, and marks the first time in McLaren’s 52-year history that it has run a car powered by Renault engines. The car will race in a stunning new livery that draws its inspiration directly from the team’s iconic papaya orange and blue colour scheme that Mclaren first raced in Formula 1 50 years ago. The MCL33 will be driven by Spain’s Fernando Alonso, the F1 double world champion entering his fourth consecutive season with Mclaren, and his team-mate Stoffel van Doorne of Belgium, who is starting his second season in Formula 1. The engineering philosophy of the MCL33 follows the roots established by its predecessor, with data accumulated from the 2017 season feeding a range of improvements. Much of the work on the MCL33 has been around optimising the packaging of the new Renault engine, and the incorporation of the new halo device. The MCL33 will conduct a dynamic filming day at a Spanish test track on Friday before beginning eight days of pre-season testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya next Monday.
