Kurdish Politicians Detained In Turkey On Terrorism Charges

Description

Protests in which riot police used water cannons to disperse demonstrators, followed police raids carried out late Tuesday in the southeastern Turkish city of Diyarbakir. The raids targeted the city's first elected female mayor, Gultan Kisanak. Kisanak and her elected co-mayor, Firat Anli were both detained. The politicians are from Turkey's main Kurdish political opposition party, the Peoples' Democratic Party. According to Turkey's official news agency, both politicians have been held on terrorism-related charges. according to a statement Wednesday from the Diyarbakir prosecutor, they are also accused of inciting violent protests and of using municipal vehicles to transport the bodies of dead militants.

  • Turkish fighter jets take off to strike Kurdish targets in Syria

    Images of Turkish fighter jets taking off from a military base in Diyarbakir to carry out strikes against positions and targets of Kurdish fighters in northern Syria.   • Spear-Carrying 'Q Shaman' ID'd As Turfed-Out Navy Vet

    The Department of Justice says the man who stormed the Capitol in face paint and a furry headdress while holding a spear is a Navy veteran. Business Insider says Jake Angeli, the so-called "Q Shaman," was identified by the Department of Justice as Jacob A. Chansley. A Navy official told Task & Purpose that he was kicked out after just over two years after refusing to get vaccinated. The Arizona man is one of several veterans who stormed the Capitol last week.
