Park Service Marks centennial With New Citizens, Monument

The National Park celebrated it's first centennial in style. The date of August 25th culminated with a few things to celebrate. First, a new national monument has been declared in the state of Maine, which incorporates 87,000 acres of the North Woods into the park service. Other events across the nation on the day include naturalization ceremonies for new citizens at the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone National Park. In Washington D.C., a massive emblem for the park service was erected in the National Mall. But the day before the park service's 100th birthday, President Barack Obama added the Katahdin Woods and Waters monument into the federal registrar. The land was presented to the federal government by the founder of Burt's Bees, Roxanne Quimby.
