Republican former President George W. Bush called out the rioters who stormed the US Capitol building on Wednesday. Thousands of Trump supporters violently forced their way onto the Capitol grounds and into the Capitol building. The insurrection forced a shutdown of the House and Senate chambers of the US Capitol on Wednesday. Former President Bush called the scene "sickening and heartbreaking" in a pointed statement. He went on to say "I am appalled by the reckless behavior of some political leaders since the election".
On Thursday Utah Congressman-elect Burgess Owens said he will support the challenge to Joe Biden's victory. Owens said he would take to the floor of the House of Representatives and declare his support for President Donald Trump. According to Business Insider Owens contends that there was "no question" that Trump was reelected. Owens said that his goal was "to make sure that I'm doing everything I can to take this to every legal end we have."
President Donald Trump has waged an all-out war against the election results. Several Republicans have waged lawsuits in multiple states seeking to overturn the election results. Sen. Mitt Romney said it would "madness" for Republicans to protest the vote certifying the election for Joe Biden. "We have a process, recounts are appropriate, going to the court is approp & pursuing every legal avenue is appropriate." "Trying to get electors not to do what the people voted to do is madness."
The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected a request to overturn President-elect Joe Biden's victory in Pennsylvania. According to Business Insider, the request was put forth by a group of Republican state legislators, led by US Rep. Mike Kelly. They asked the court for an emergency order nullifying Biden's win, claiming the state legislature did not have the power to expand mail-in voting. It's yet another defeat among dozens of the Trump campaign's ongoing attempts to keep Trump in office for a second term. Battleground states Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia, Nevada, Arizona, and Wisconsin have all certified their results as of last week. Tuesday is also the "safe harbor" deadline by which all 50 states have to certify their results and resolve any legal disputes surrounding the results.
