  • CEO Of Hulu Stepping Down

    Mike Hopkins, the CEO of Hulu, will reportedly step down from his position at the website to head up Sony's TV efforts. Hopkins took over Hulu in 2013 and transformed it from a streaming service for television shows to a serious award show contender for original content. Just this year, Hulu took home Emmy Awards for its show "The Handmaid's Tale" and landing the streaming rights to TV programs "30 Rock" and "Will & Grace." Reports add that Hopkins' replacement will be Randy Freer, who was the president and COO of Fox television.

  • ‘Shameless’ Actor William H. Macy Looks Back on Year of Double Emmy Win

    William H. Macy plays a deadbeat drunk of a dad on Showtime’s “Shameless,” but he cleans up well when it comes to the Emmys. This year he’s celebrating his second consecutive nomination as lead actor in a comedy, as well as proudly supporting his wife, Felicity Huffman, on her's for ABC’s “American Crime.” Variety spoke with the veteran actor discussing the awards show, what it means to the industry, and how he enjoys the celebration. Macy said, " it’s a party for us. We get to crow in front of the audience." He also mentioned it provides a contest for those working in the industry while also giving shows invaluable exposure to other audiences. Macy added he's proud, excited, and expecting his wife to win an Emmy this year. This wouldn’t be the first year that two new Emmy Awards donned their mantel — he won in two categories in 2003 for his TNT telepic “Door to Door.”

In his show Monday night, he said, “Now, I know you think that’s a picture of me kissing Sean Spicer, but in the spirit of Sean Spicer, no it isn’t."     The house (not House of Cards) that Netflix built has more competition than ever, but a recent earnings report shows that the company is very much dominating the streaming TV game, and could wind up spending $8 billion on original programming next year. The Los Gatos, California-based company impressed at this year’s Emmy Awards, earning 91 nominations and taking home 20 trophies.
