Democratic Senators Lead Filibuster for Gun Legislation

Description

Senator Chris Murphy has had enough of gun violence in the nation. The Democratic senator began a filibuster no the Senate floor to push for new legislation while rallying the legislature to address the need to prevent gun violence. The Connecticut senator became a strong advocate for strict gun control following the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012. Two other Democratic senators joined in Murphy's filibuster efforts. In wake of Orlando's deadly shooting, Senators Cory Booker and Richard Blumenthal are also seeking to pass new legislation to implement universal background checks for purchasing firearms; their proposal would prevent those on the federal government's no-fly list from purchasing guns as well.
