Argentina Shut Down By Women Protesting Violence

Description

Thousands of people flooded the streets of downtown Buenos Aires and other cities across Argentina on Wednesday afternoon, despite torrential rains to protest against gender-based violence. "The massive demonstration was triggered by the excruciating murder of 16-year old Lucia Perez" earlier this month. Her memory was honored by protesters who held signs that spelled out the phrase "We are all Lucia." Many protesters painted their faces with fake blood and bruises. The protests are part of "a nationwide awakening that started in 2015 following the horrendous murder of a kindergarten teacher who had her throat slit by her husband in front of three- and four-year old children in the classroom."
