Trump Urges Senate Committee To Investigate "Fake News Networks"

Description

On Thursday morning, President Donald Trump tweeted to urge the Senate Intelligence Committee, which is currently investigating Trump's potential collusion with Russia during the 2016 election, to instead investigate "Fake News Networks." Trump said, "Why Isn't the Senate Intel Committee looking into the Fake News Networks in OUR country to see why so much of our news is just made up-FAKE!" The president's tweet continues a media offensive that began Wednesday morning when NBC News reported that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called Trump a "moron." At a press conference following the story, Tillerson said Trump "is smart," although he did not explicitly deny the report. Instead, he dismissed the story as "nonsense" that he refused to address.

A federal judge voided the plea deal after finding that he lied to prosecutors after agreeing to cooperate. Manafort was sentenced last year to 7 1/2 years in prison for his crimes. • How The QAnon 'Save Our Children' Conspiracy Is Harming Legitimate Child Welfare Orgs

For months, child welfare organizations have been dealing with the pandemic and its impact on at-risk children. But now, CNN reports workers have a new thorn in their sides: the QAnon conspiracy theory. It casts President Donald Trump as the hero in a fight against the 'deep state' and a sinister cabal of Democratic politicians and celebrities who abuse children. Child abuse hotline workers say believers in such unfounded theories are jamming up the lines, preventing true reports and children in need from getting through. What's more, when QAnon believers invoke the names of reputable organizations in their rhetoric, it tarnishes the good names of child welfare professionals. More than 100 anti-trafficking and child welfare organizations have already published an open letter warning of the dangers QAnon poses to their work.
