Apple Face ID Apparently Breached By Security Firm Bkav

Description

Apple’s Face ID is one the main features of the new iPhone X. It is, ostensibly far more secure than using a fingerprint sensor, but it seems that a security firm has already beaten the new system with a custom-made mask. Vietnamese firm Bkav say they’ve beaten the system by tricking the phone’s ability to map and understand depth. That’s a critical step in generating a 3D model of the face that the phone’s software uses to identify you. Bkav states that this means that Apple’s facial recognition is not very sophisticated and that they leveraged that knowledge to trick the AI.
