Real Estate Fraud Could Earn Musician 30 Years In Prison

Description

From Rock N' Roll to Fraud Charges N' Prison, this is a "Behind the Music" tale for the ages. Michael Davenport, former bass guitarist for The Ataris, has landed himself in legal trouble after defrauding approximately 100,000 people in all 50 states (and Washington D.C.) out of approximately $27 million. Prosecutors say Davenport founded a real estate company called American Standard, which scammed customers by advertising homes for sale for below-market prices, typically on Craigslist, prompting interested customers to pay $199 for an exclusive listing of homes, only to later find out the listed real estate was either not for sale or didn't even exist. Prosecutors say American Standard hired employees who mostly spent their "time fielding phone calls from angry customers and homeowners" and created impossible hoops for customers who demanded a refund to jump through. Davenport was arrested in December in Arkansas with $104,000 in cash, and has been charged with wire fraud, mail fraud, and more.

And I think that the pandemic has affected all of us as a society and also public officials and also prosecutors who work in the special team. Therefore, since the investigation with the prosecution evidence is now concluded, it is the obligation of the prosecutor and in this case of the special team to present the accusation so that the accused can defend themselves against the charges before the judiciary. And therefore, and I want you to be able to understand me, this is already in the competence of the judiciary, no longer, of the prosecution.
