Thirty years ago today, the SEAT S.A. factory in Martorell was inaugurated. The anniversary coincides with the beginning of the company’s biggest transformation ever, with a total investment of three billion euros. This transition from combustion to electrification will involve all areas: research and development, production and logistics, commercial and people and organisation.SEAT S.A.’s main factory will start producing fully electric vehicles by 2025 for different brands within the Group. To achieve this, the company has designed a strategic plan that includes five main pillars: people and organisation, electrification and product, production end to end (E2E), digitalisation and sustainability. One of the key projects for the transformation is that SEAT S.A. will lead the Small BEV cluster for the Volkswagen Group; the family of cars that will democratise sustainable urban mobility for different brands. Martorell will become one of the Group’s production hub for these electric cars and a crucial part of the electric vehicle value chain in Spain.
The path to the Lancia Design Day on November 28th continues with three icons of the past, Aurelia, Flaminia, and Fulvia, which inspired the design of the future Lancia vehicles with a perfect combination of clean forms, balanced volumes, and constant reinterpretations of the “calice” grille. The Aurelia is a sleek Lancia vehicle which, on the B20, stands out for its sloping sides. The Flaminia is the Italian President’s official vehicle and features the iconic 1957 Lancia logo on its grille.Fulvia is the Lancia vehicle with the classic “turret” cabin.
Lancia started the first of three appointments in anticipation of the Lancia Design Day on November 28th, the first event of Lancia Renaissance to describe the style of some of its most past iconic vehicles which inspired the design of its three future models. In this journey from the past to the future, the stars are the Lancia vehicles which are part of the collective imagination: from Aurelia to Flaminia, from Fulvia to Beta HPE, Gamma, Delta, Stratos, and 037. These models vary quite a lot between one another, as some are graceful and elegant, while others are brutal and efficient; but they all have a style capable of remaining timeless. This is what kept them beautiful, contemporary, and authentic expressions of Italian design until today.
Everything we look at from the distant past is always seen in black and white; this is largely due to our collective audiovisual imagination. Although the first film to use the newly developed Technicolor production dates back to 1935, Becky Sharp, this colour technology did not become widespread until years later. For example, it arrived in the United Kingdom and much of Europe in 1967, with the television broadcast of the Wimbledon tennis tournament, and two years later the Eurovision Song Contest was broadcast in full colour in Spain. Until then, video cameras only recorded in black and white, so many of the videos in SEAT’s documentary archive are devoid of any colour. That too is now a thing of the past.
