Mayweather vs. McGregor is officially down for the count, with the actual boxer winning the much-hyped superfight by way of 10th-round technical knockout. The referee stopped the fight after Conor McGregor’s offense completely ceased and the mixed martial artist was no longer able to defend himself. Most people predicted future pugilism hall-of-famer Floyd Mayweather Jr. would win the bout, though very few figured it would be as close as it actually was.
The lead-up to the biggest event in combat sports history continued on Wednesday with Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor giving their final press conference before their matchup on Saturday, August 26. The fighters spoke to hundreds of media representatives, with Mayweather telling the press, "“I’ve been here so many times. I know what it takes for a fight of this magnitude." McGregor fought back with his words, saying, "I will go forward and put the pressure on and break this old man. He made a big error agreeing to the eight ounce gloves. I don’t see him lasting two rounds."
On Wednesday, The Nevada Athletic Commission announced major details for the upcoming August 26 boxing match at T-Mobile Arena between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. The NAC annonuced that World Boxing Hall of Fame referee Robert Byrd was selected to be the third man in the ring. An controversial ruling earlier this week occurred when NAC approved a change in glove size for Mayweather. The commission granted a one-time waiver to lower the 10oz gloves to 8oz.
American boxer Floyd Mayweather and Irish mixed martial artist Conor McGregor faced off in a public verbal feud in Los Angeles on Tuesday, in a kick off press conference ahead of the fighters' world press tour. For their international press tour this week, the fighters are set to visit Toronto, New York and London.
