"FCA Replay" is a weekly recap of some of the major stories at FCA US. The top stories for the week of June 29, 2018, include the reveal of the 2019 Dodge Challenger and Charger, new Ram updates with 1500 Classic and ProMaster and a partnership between FCA and Interscope Records with the Apple experience.
"The last 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, assembled at the FCA US Brampton Assembly Plant (Ontario, Canada), rolled off the line today in the first step toward making horsepower history at the June 20-23 Barrett-Jackson Northeast Auction. The limited-production, world record-setting 2018 Demon and the last 2017 Dodge Viper hand-built American supercar will be auctioned as a pair in “The Ultimate Last Chance” end-of-an-era offer with 100 percent of the hammer proceeds from the sale going to the United Way. After leaving the Brampton plant, the last 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will travel to an upfit center for its final stages of assembly, which includes adding a hand-painted exclusive Viper Red exterior color, 18-inch aluminum wheels, 18-inch Demon drag radial tires, Demon vehicle badging and a one-of-a-kind VIN instrument panel badging. Production of the Challenger SRT Demon was limited to one model year and 3,300 units."
"From May 25 to 27 the World Superbike Championship is back on the circuit where it all began, Donington Park, for the sixth round of the season. It was on April 3, 1988 at Donington Park that the first race of the first World Superbike Championship was held. Located in the hills of Leicestershire, Donington Park is a circuit that alternates between two very different sections: the first segment is fast and smooth while the second is full of abrupt braking sections that make it seem like a stop-and-go track. Another factor to contend with are the low temperatures that block the brakes from reaching operating temperature. In fact, during both races in 2015 the temperature of the tarmac was just 21° C and the air temperature didn't go over 14°C, although it didn't rain. According to Brembo technicians, who work closely with 16 World Superbike riders, Donington Park is a highly demanding circuit for the brakes. On a scale of 1 to 5, it earned a 5 on the difficulty index, exactly the same score given to the tracks at Imola and Chang."
"Johann Zarco had a brilliant debut into this season. Next up is the sold-out fifth race of the 2018 World Championship at Le Mans scheduled for May 18-20. The French circuit was built in 1965 around the 24 Hour of Le Mans track, with which it shares a third of the track. Named for Ettore Bugatti, the circuit hosted the 500cc class of the World Championship for the first time in 1969, but it has been a permanent site of the French GP only since 2000. The track is 4,2 km long and in October 2016 it was completely repaved for the first time in 12 years. The new pavement guarantee better grip, which would enable the bikes to discharge more braking torque than in previous years. The straightaway at the arrival is only 674 meters long but since there are lots of other straightaways, the riders can easily cool down their Brembo carbon discs. To ward off the opposite risk, many of the riders will probably adopt brake discs with a low braking surface. "
