GOP Leaders Brush Off Trump's Gun Proposals


On Tuesday, Republican leaders in Congress said they are not likely to arm teachers or raise the minimum age for buying semiautomatic rifles. The statement is a sign that two Donald Trump’s proposals may not get far on Capitol Hill. At a news conference, House Speaker Paul Ryan said, "We shouldn’t be banning guns from law-abiding citizens. We should be focusing on making sure that citizens who should not get guns in the first place don’t get those guns.” Democrats have said that Congress needs to expand the background check system to apply to all gun sales, not just those by licensed federal firearms dealers.
