How Carrie Fisher's Death Almost Changed The Last Jedi

Description

Rian Johnson considered changing 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' following 2016's shocking death of Carrie Fisher. In December of 2016, Fisher died at the age of 60. Although she had shot all the scenes for 'The Last Jedi', Johnson admitted he was unsure about whether to change the movie's plot following her passing as she would no longer be able to be part of 'Episode IX'. In a chat with Entertainment Weekly, Johnson revealed that the first conversation he had with Lucasfilms after he came back from New Year's break was how to address Carrie Fisher's death. There was talk of filming an off-camera death scene for Fisher's character. Eventually, Johnson decided against that. He said "Given that we have a beautiful, complete performance from her that I think audiences deserve to see, and I think it will mean a lot for them, that ray of hope from Leia."
