Gunman, Three Others Found Dead at California VA Home


According to officials, a gunman and three women he was believed to have taken hostage at a veterans home in California were found dead Friday, nearly eight hours after shots were reported in the area. The incident occurred at the Veterans Home of California in Yountville, a facility north of Napa wine country. The gunman is believed to have been formerly from the "Pathway Home", which is a privately run program that treats veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars with post-traumatic stress disorder. The three victims have been identified as Christine Loeber, Pathway home executive director; Dr. Jen Golick, a therapist; and Dr. Jennifer Gonzales, a psychologist with the San Francisco Department of Veterans Affairs Healthcare System.

Chris Childs with the California Highway Patrol said that shortly before 6pm, officers stormed into the room where the gunman had held hostages. Childs said that they found the gunman and the three hostages dead. The victims have been identified as 48 year-old Christine Loeber, 42 year-old Jennifer Golick, and 29 year old Jennifer Gonzales. Childs said, "This is a tragic piece of news, one that we were really hoping we wouldn't have to come before the public to give."

    According to CNN, the gunman who killed 12 people at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, California had frequently visited the site of the shooting. One woman who had been friends with Ian David Long for five years said, "We would go to Borderline together. He really liked it." Long was a 28-year-old veteran of the Marine Corps who had previous run-ins with the law. Police who entered the scene of the crime found Long dead of what is believed to have been a self-inflicted gunshot. Back in April, law enforcement had responded to a disturbance at the home where Long lived. A mental health specialist with the crisis team met with him and said Long might be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

    On Monday June 27th 2016 the San Diego County sherrif's deputies were answering a 911 call in the Rancho Sante Fe suburb when three people were discovered dead inside the home. The call was for child abuse but when the police arrived they discovered two deceased women and deceased teenage girl The officer on scene Lt. Kenn Nelson stated they haven't ruled out a suicide double murder as they have yet to determine the motive or even the relationship between the victims. No other suspects are being pursued. The identities of the deceased were not released at this time.
