A Serena Williams Beauty Line May Be Coming Soon

Description

These days, our favorite celebrities are multi-hyphenate megastars. Now, joining the ranks of David Beckham, Rihanna, and Drew Barrymore in the latter category, is Serena Williams. Advertisement Back in January, Williams filed to trademark the name "Aneres" — "Serena" spelled backwards — for, apparently, a well-rounded cosmetics line. According to the official trademark records, Williams' cosmetics collection could include a variety of products, like skin care, makeup, perfumes, body care, hair care, watches, jewelry, cosmetic bags, makeup brushes, even hair pins and backpack charms.

The singer and actor has been open about her own mental health challenges, and sometimes feeling "less than," due to the pressures that come along with becoming famous at a young age. She explains, "It's hard enough for anyone during those early years but imagine it with the world judging you and commenting on every aspect of your life and choices." Selena wants to use her voice to reduce the stigma associated with talking about mental health, and to encourage people to celebrate their individualism. The goal of her new beauty line, Rare Beauty, is to challenge beauty norms and celebrating what each person unique. She adds "Since the start of Rare Beauty, my team and I have been building a community to have positive conversations around self-acceptance and mental health." A percentage of the sales go to Selena's Rare Impact Fund, which helps underserved communities access to the mental health resources and services. Their goal is to raise $100 million over the next ten years. She adds, "We all need to embrace our uniqueness, stop comparing ourselves to others, and love ourselves more, especially right now."
