According to a new list released Tuesday, Donald Trump’s net worth fell by $400 million in 2017, causing him to fall 222 places on Forbes' annual list of the world’s billionaires. Forbes attributed Trump’s fall to the decrease in value of his real estate holdings in Manhattan and less-than-stellar income from his golf resorts. On the other hand, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos topped the list for the very first time, making him officially the richest person on the planet with a fortune of $112 billion.
According to Reuters, U.S. President Donald Trump’s personal fortune held steady over the past year, but rose on the Forbes list of the richest people in the world as dozens of his fellow tycoons suffered financial setbacks. Forbes said that Trump’s $3.1 billion net worth is unchanged from last year. Forbes said the president's real estate holdings held their value better than assets that make up the portfolios of a lot of other billionaires.
According to Forbes Magazine, President Trump's net worth has dropped considerably. Business Insider reports Trump fell 138 spots on Forbes' list of the 400 richest people in the US. Trump has lost roughly $1.4 billion in net worth since announcing his presidential campaign in 2015. In the statement, Trump asserted that he had a "massive" net worth "in excess of $10 billion."
According to reporter Jonathan Greenberg, Donald Trump inflated his wealth to make the Forbes 400 list in 1984. In an OP-ED published through the Washington Post, Greenberg stated Trump called him under the guise of being an aide with the Trump Organization to get on the list. Identifying himself as John Barron, Trump allegedly altered his cadence and affected a stronger New York accent during the call, which Greenberg recorded and released. In the call, the two discuss replacing Fred Trump with Donald Trump on the Forbes 400 list, because the father's stake in the real estate business had been consolidated into the son's ownership stake.
