On June 28, 50-year-old Texas man Brian Parrott had to have his leg amputated after he contracted a flesh-eating bacterial infection from swimming in the Gulf of Mexico.
A number of people have been infected with necrotizing fasciitis, more commonly known as flesh-eating disease, in Japan since the beginning of the year.There had been a total of 273 cases of flesh-eating bacteria in Japan as of December 2014. Following the appearance of several new cases this year, the total number of cases has risen to 279.
