Clarkson said on the red carpet that she wanted Kesha to win the award. She explained, “It’s such a personal song and as a songwriter myself and writing those songs that really bare all..." "...I am against her but I wouldn’t be sad if she won. She deserves this one." The award went to Ed Sheeran for his single "Shape of You."
