The UK has accused Beijing-linked organisations of orchestrating two "malicious" cyber campaigns against democratic institutions and parliamentarians. Deputy prime minister Oliver Dowden tells the House of Commons the attacks in 2021 and 2022 compromised the Electoral Commission and UK parliamentary accounts, including those of lawmakers. SOUNDBITE
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak says the UK has sanctioned officials running the Arctic penal colony where Russian opposition figure and critic of President Vladmir Putin Alexei Navalny died, saying Britian and its allies were considering "all options to hold Russia and Putin to account". "He died for a cause to which he dedicated his whole life - freedom - and to return home knowing that Putin had already tried to have him killed is one of the most courageous acts of our time," he tells members of parliament. British Foreign Secretary David Cameron urges members of the US Congress to approve a Ukraine aid package. "We should be standing up for freedom, standing up for the right of this country to defend itself and making sure that Putin doesn't win," he says while on a visit to Bulgaria. The Republican leader of the US House of Representatives blocked war aid for Ukraine on February 13, ignoring President Joe Biden's plea that passing the bill was vital for standing up to Russian President Vladimir Putin. During his speech at the Conservatives party conference in Manchester, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak calls on his allies to continue arming Kyiv to enable Ukraine to "finish the job" and repel the Russian invasion. SOUNDBITE
UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, evokes the spirit of Winston Churchill as he welcomes Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, in the room from which Britain's World War Two leader made some of his most famous speeches. "In the same way today, your leadership, your country's bravery and fortitude are an inspiration to us all" says Sunak. Zelensky responds with thanks and says he looks forward to discussing more urgent military support, with the UK pledging additional supply of "hundreds" of both air-defence missiles and long-range attack drones to fend off Russia's invasion.
