Netflix Drops Trailer For Season 2 Of Jessica Jones

Description

"You're not super. You're a ticking time bomb." That's one way to diagnose the hard-hitting and hard-drinking vigilante at the heart of Marvel's Jessica Jones, which premieres its entire second season March 8 on Netflix. Krysten Ritter stars as Jessica, reprising the role she's played on two separate Marvel projects now: 2016's initial Jessica Jones season, followed by the superhero team-up Marvel's The Defenders in 2017. Based on the brand-new trailer for season two, it appears Jessica's work with the likes of Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Danny Rand (Finn Jones) will have an impact on the new season of her solo series. Early on in the trailer, Jessica bemoans the escalation of "super vigilante shit" in her life, a clear side effect of her time fighting alongside New York City's very own Avengers analogue. Speaking of Earth's mightiest heroes, at one point in the trailer, a child asks Jessica if she knows Captain America (Chris Evans) — among the most explicit call-outs between Marvel's Netflix Universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date; the impact of the Battle of New York from 2012's Marvel's The Avengers on the first season of Marvel's Daredevil aside, the streaming service's slice of the MCU has typically referred to the big-screen heroes in vague terms at best. Don't expect to see Steve Rogers suddenly appearing in a second season of The Defenders, let alone the second season of Jessica Jones, but the line is a rare acknowledgment of the shared universe nonetheless. Even without Avengers at her beck and call, it looks like Jessica won't forge forward into season two without some backup of her own in the form of Trish "Patsy" Walker, Jessica's longtime best friend and veritable sister, played by Rachael Taylor. In Marvel Comics lore, Patsy is better known as Hellcat, an occasional Avenger and hero in her own right. The first season of Jessica Jones pushed Trish down the path of eventual heroism, as she underwent vigorous self-defense training. The season-two trailer sees an evolution of that idea, as Trish slugs it out on the streets and even wields a gun at one point. "Jessica might not want a sidekick," she says, "but she needs one" — and based on the trailer, it's "Patsy" who will occupy the role.
