War in Afghanistan: Is there hope for the Taliban-US peace talks?

Description

If the Afghan government is not even at the peace talks, it shows how the US government thinks it's irrelevant. That's strange, as the future of the country relies on a strong Afghan leadership. So says Kamal Alam, Afghanistan analyst at the Institute for Statecraft. It comes as the latest round of peace talks, between only the Taliban and the US, broke up in Qatar as violence in Afghanistan continues. Just this last weekend, 22 Afghan troops were killed in an attack by the Taliban.
