After Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel won two of the opening three races this season, there seemed a genuine chance that could change. But Valtteri Bottas had other ideas as he secured his first ever F1 Grand Prix Sunday and maintained Mercedes dominance on Russia's Black Sea coast.     (CNN)Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas won the Azerbaijan GP to move clear at the top of the drivers' standings after four races of the 2019 season. The Finnish driver now has two wins and two second-place finishes but sits above teammate Lewis Hamilton, courtesy of a bonus point he claimed by recording the fastest lap in Australia. Hamilton, who finished second behind Bottas, capped off a good day for Mercedes, which extended its lead at the top of the team championship to 74-points.

  • Vallteri Bottas Wins 3rd Straight F1 Pole

    Valtteri Bottas completed a hat-trick of Formula 1 pole positions in qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix. Bottas had the edge on Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton throughout qualifying, ending up a massive 0.634 seconds quicker. None of the top four were able to improve their times on their second runs on soft Pirellis in Q3, ensuring Mercedes kept hold of the front-row lockout it had taken earlier in the final segment of qualifying. Sebastian Vettel was third and 0.866s off the pace, less than a tenth quicker than fourth-best Max Verstappen's Red Bull.

    Lewis Hamilton takes victory in Sochi following Mercedes team orders, extend his title lead by 50 points over Sebastian Vettel. Pole sitter, Valtteri Bottas controlled the first half of the race, crossed the line in second ahead of Hamilton’s championship rival Vettel. Hamilton now has the equivalent of two victories in his pocket with just five rounds remaining and 125 points left to play for.
