Global climate strike: Students around the world walk out to demand change


For several months, thousands of European high school students have been protesting climate change by skipping class on Fridays and hitting the streets. They're hoping the movement builds to a crescendo this Friday. Classrooms are set to empty around the world as young people urge adults to use their power to save the planet. Here in France the message is even starker: "In 2050 you will be dead, not us." Hugo Viel, a 20-year-old engineering student and climate activist, gave us his perspective.

    Thousands of students walked out of classrooms across the UK on Friday as part of a national climate change protest.CNN reports the protest, called Youth Strike 4 Climate, took place in more than 60 British cities and towns. Thousands of students gathered in front of the Houses of Parliament in London. The strike aimed to raise awareness of the increasing threats of climate change and to urge the UK government to declare a climate emergency.

  • U.N. Chief Guterres Nudges EU To Dramatically Raise 2030 Climate Goal

    U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has challenged the European Union to significantly increase its target for cutting greenhouse gas emissions. According to Reuters, Guterres wants the EU to aim for a 55% cut in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, far more than the bloc’s current target for a 40% reduction. In a letter to European Council President Donald Tusk, Guterres said the world’s largest economic bloc should lead by example to avert the worst effects of global warming and limit temperature increases to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Killian L-R. a été interpellé dans le cadre du mandat d’arrêt émis contre lui.
