The Trump Organization's finances are to be under even closer scrutiny by the Manhattan District Attorney's office. CNN reports the investigation will include the family's 212-acre 'Seven Springs' compound in Westchester County. It's a significant widening of an investigation that began more than a year ago, and also draws closer to President Donald Trump's son Eric Trump. He's the Trump Organization's executive vice president and was directly involved in discussions about the property now under investigation. The criminal investigation poses a significant threat to Trump, his business, and his family as he leaves the White House next week.
US lawmakers are back to square one with respect to the passage of the most recent $900 billion pandemic stimulus package. CNN reports the House of Representatives on Thursday failed to secure an increase of direct payments to Americans from $600 to $2,000. The attempt was a response to one of President Donald Trump's surprise demands he made in a tweeted video late on Tuesday. House Democrats tried to quickly pass the bill by a unanimous consent request Thursday morning, but Republicans rejected the move. GOP lawmakers are now in a difficult spot where they will be forced to decide whether or not they will defy the President.

If Joe Biden is elected president, outgoing President Donald Trump is likely to have more days in court than he ever dreamed possible. Lacking his current presidential protections, Trump will face multiple investigations over whether he committed fraud in his businesses--and as an individual. According to CNN, Trump also faces defamation lawsuits sparked by his denials of accusations made by women who have alleged he assaulted them. If Trump wins, he may be able to run out the statute of limitations, which for some crimes in New York state law is five to six years. Or, he could simply continue enjoying the DOJ's Office of Legal Counsel opinion that says a sitting president can't be indicted.
President Donald Trump's tax returns are shrouded in mystery. The New York Times wrote a series of articles, based on copies of Trump's returns they were able to obtain. On Thursday, Trump did a town hall on NBC. He was asked about his taxes. CNN reports that Trump made several revelations during the town hall about his taxes. 1) Trump does have more than $400 million in loans coming due. 2) Trump won't say whether he has loans with foreign banks or foreign governments. 3) Trump is under audit (still). 4) Trump seemingly only paid $750.00 in taxes in 2016.
