The continuous evolution of Nissan's flagship GT-R NISMO takes another step forward with the addition of a new Special Edition, which was previewed today in Yokohama, Japan.The GT-R NISMO Special Edition features a NISMO-exclusive Stealth Gray exterior color, new edition-exclusive 20-inch RAYS forged aluminum-alloy wheels with red accents, and a unique clear-coated carbon fiber hood that exposes the intricate carbon fiber weave. For the first time for GT-R, the new Nissan logo adorns the trunk lid and wheel center caps.A very limited number of the new model will be available in North America this fall. Pricing for the GT-R NISMO Special Edition will be announced at a later date.The GT-R NISMO remains Nissan's ultimate performance super sports car that provides race-proven technology and an exhilarating driving experience for virtually everyone. The GT-R NISMO's VR38DETT 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 remains the heart of the GT-R's drivetrain and is rated at 600 horsepower and 481 lb-ft of torque. The GT-R NISMO Special Edition utilizes high-precision, weight-balanced parts for the piston rings, connecting rods, crankshaft, and valve gear components dialed in with tighter tolerances, delivering snappier engine revs and quicker turbo spooling.

For maximum performance, the engine was upgraded, its aerodynamics further enhanced, and weight was shed through the meticulous use of exotic materials.But when the time came to document the newest Nissan super sports car in its natural habitat – on the track – there was one problem. How to film it?Enter Mauro Calo. A professional precision driver and automotive video expert known for his work on big-budget blockbuster movies and automotive TV shows, he has the perfect car to chase and film the 2020 GT-R NISMO – another GT-R.While Nissan helped locate a suitable GT-R to be transformed into a purpose-built camera car, Calo was already working on the design. Once the car arrived, he and his team fitted a bespoke tubular structure that was welded to the chassis and able to hold the weight of the professional carbon-fiber gimbal camera mounting system.
The 2020 Nissan GT-R NISMO made its world debut, with race car-inspired upgrades and tuning improvements that maximize its exhilarating performance.The model was showcased alongside the new 50th Anniversary Edition as Nissan celebrated 50 years of GT-R heritage at the 2019 New York International Auto Show.For the 2020 Nissan GT-R NISMO, Nissan engineers set out to take race-proven technology and make it accessible and comfortable for drivers of all skill levels. Vehicle control and predictability were critical in achieving this; thus, they adopted the theme "absolute street and track performance" when developing the car.Setting the most potent and exclusive of all GT-Rs apart from the rest of the pack is the amount of carbon fiber found throughout the car, including the front and rear bumpers, front fenders, hood, roof, side sill covers, trunk and rear spoiler. Each component has been improved to cut weight, increase downforce and enhance aerodynamics. These exterior parts alone have resulted in a total weight savings of 23 pounds (10.5 kilograms), in addition to nearly 44 pounds (20 kilograms) of reductions from other upgrades and new components.
