Miley Cyrus's Statement On Virginity Sparks Debate

Description

Miley Cyrus has been in heavy promotion mode on Instagram, since releasing her video for her new single "Mother's Daughter" on July 2. The singer, who is no stranger to pushing buttons, has used affirmative feminist statements like "Not an object" and "Every woman is a riot." But, according to Business Insider, some fans are upset about one of her statements, "virginity is a social construct." Some fans said that they believe that Miley is criticizing those who choose abstinence. On fan wrote, "There's something very wrong with people who think being a virgin is a problem." But other supporters have rushed to Miley's defense, explaining that she's pushing a sex positive message, by making a statement against slut-shaming. They interpret her message as saying that women are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and shouldn't be punished for it.
