Earlier this month, Apple shocked consumers by releasing their very own battery case for the iPhone 6 and 6s. They called the new product the Smart Battery… but is it really all that smart? The investigative crew at iFixit decided to find out. Peeling away the microfiber lining, they discovered a small, aluminum plate that sits atop the battery. With the liner and plate removed, iFixit got to the heart of Apple’s supposedly innovative case: an 1877mAh lithium battery. While these touches will protect both the case and phone battery, this little detail and the included antenna are not enough to bring this battery case above the level of the competition.
