Former Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen is now being confirmed for another top job--that of Treasury Secretary in the Biden administration. And according to Business Insider, she says raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour would have little to no impact on employment. Democrats support raising the minimum wage, but it remains a partisan issue due to its potential effects on the economy. GOP lawmakers consistently argue that raising the minimum wage would cost the country millions of jobs. However, Yellen said Tuesday that a $15 minimum wage increase wouldn't significantly impact the job market.
The price of US housing in the third quarter of 2020 saw the biggest year-over-year jump since 2013. Markets Insider reports the median price for a single-family home rose 12%, mainly fueled by record-low mortgage interest rates. But there's a downside: Not every American is benefitting from the rally. In fact, Q3 saw the proportion of first-time homebuyers drop to just 31%. That's the lowest share in over 30 years. As home prices significantly outpace median family income growth, more Americans have been pushed out of the housing market and have had to delay homeownership.

Business Insider reports roughly 34,000 current and former McDonald's fast-food workers in California are due a check for as much as just under $4000. McDonald's has agreed to settle with workers for a total of $26 million in a case originally filed in 2013, over wage theft by the company. Workers say the company engaged in illegal practices in various ways. McDonald's allegedly failed to pay all wages when due, failed to provide meal and rest breaks for workers, and failed to pay overtime wages or minimum wage. Workers will receive checks for an average of just over $333.
