Former Pakistani President Arrested On Corruption Charges

Description

CNN reports Pakistan's former President Asif Ali Zardari was arrested Monday on corruption charges after a court rejected his bail application. Zardari was married to Benazir Bhutto, the first female Prime Minister of an Islamic nation, who was assassinated in 2007. Five police officers arrested 63-year-old Zardari on charges related to suspicious transactions totaling 4.4 billion Pakistani rupees, or about 29 million US dollars.

Trump has repeatedly asked aides about pardons for himself and his family members--and whether he could issue them preemptively. CNN reports the question of self-pardoning may be moot. If Trump faces any criminal charges, they'll be at the state level, not federal. US Presidents are not immune from any state charges.
