Baby rhino, Qabid, steps out in public for the first time
Footage provided courtesy of the Oregon Zoo on Tuesday shows this adorable 10 month-old polar bear cub named Nora playing in a pool of Ice at her enclosure in Portland. Nora explored her new enclosure, wriggling around in a tub of crushed ice and swimming in the pool. The young polar bear will be taking some time to settle into her new home, and if all continues to go well, Zoo visitors can expect to see her later in October.
The Zoo of Copenhagen has released footage of a baby elephant which was born last week in captivity as part of a European breeding program for Asian elephants. The mother is 16 year old Maha Kumari and the fathers name is Fahim. The name and gender of the baby elephant aren't known yet. Calves weight in beetween 70 and 90kg at birth after spending 22 months in their mothers wombs, the longest gestation in the animal kindom. A cougar cub born at the end of November at Novosibirsk Zoo could be seen adapting to the wildlife park’s snowy conditions with its mother on Wednesday. Welcoming the cub during winter is rare since a female cougar in nature does not normally give birth during the cold winter months. Novosibirsk Zoo has accommodated cougars since 1967.
Proud mama panda bear Shin Shin munched on bamboo as her new baby panda cub named Xiang Xiang was unveiled to the public at Tokyo's Ueno Zoo on Monday. Journalists and a group of school children were able to get a glimpse of the six-month-old baby cub playing and climbing a tree. This marks the first time in almost three decades that a panda cub at Ueno Zoo has lived to see six months.
