GrubHub Pops As Amazon Exits Restaurant Delivery In The US

Chicago-based GrubHub is rallying early Tuesday, up 5.49%, after Amazon said it plans to shut down its restaurant-delivery service in the US by the end of the month. The program, which started in Seattle in 2015, was eventually offered in 20 cities across the country. The US's restaurant-delivery business has become a crowded space, with competitors like UberEats, DoorDash, and GrubHub all making their presence known. Tuesday's announcement comes seven months after Amazon discontinued its delivery service in the UK.

  • Facebook Wants You To Order Food Through Facebook

Facebook really wants to make sure you never leave its site. The platform is now offering a service that lets you order food through the app or website itself. One can order both takeout and delivery. Facebook is not competing with similar online services such as GrubHub. It’s merely partnering with some of them, including Delivery.com, DoorDash, ChowNow, Olo, Zuppler, and Slice. So now, when a person clicks on the new “Order Food” tab under Explore, they'll find listings for local eateries. When they click on “Start Order” for a preferred restaurant, they're sent to a preferred existing service — such as Delivery.com — and can then order through there.
