Sn Francisco Bans E-Cigarettes


On Tuesday, San Francisco's Board of Supervisors approved an ordinance banning the sale and distribution of e-cigarettes. The e-cigarettes are banned until the products are approved by the FDA. The ban goes into effect early next year. Business Insider reports this law would be the most far-reaching e-cigarette law by a major city in the US. Juul is the leading maker of e-cigarettes. The company is headquartered in San Francisco. It is pushing a ballot measure to make the ban unenforceable.

    Juul is gearing up for an all-or-nothing fight over the surge of local bans on vaping around the country. Business Insider reports the the battle is starting in its headquarters city of San Francisco. San Francisco just enacted the nation's first blanket prohibition on e-cigarette sales. More than 200 jurisdictions have placed limits on selling flavored tobacco products. San Francisco's ordinance was signed last week. It goes further by cutting off all sales until the products go through FDA reviews. The ban is serving as a test case for a broader national fight over youth smoking and vaping.
