Fox News host Chris Wallace moderated the first chaotic, shambolic presidential debate between President Donald Trump and opponent Joe Biden. Now, Business Insider reports Wallace says he was 'pissed off' by the behavior of Trump's family entourage. Upon being seated at the debate, Trump family members had removed their masks, violating agreed-upon debate rules. After I had the luxury to think about it, I was pissed off. I mean, did they think that the rules that applied to everybody else didn't apply to them? Chris Wallace Interview with The Washington Post Forty-eight hours after the debate, the president tested positive for COVID-19, as did first lady Melania Trump.
After much ado about mutable microphones and plexiglass shields, President Donald Trump will face opponent Joe Biden on Thursday. CNN reports Trump needs to not just perform well at the presidential debate, he'll need to pull a rabbit out of the hat to swing the race his way. The president trails Biden in both national polls and key swing states that will determine whether he has a path to victory in the Electoral College. Both candidates need to improve their standing with certain groups, though. Biden needs more Hispanic voters, and Trump is struggling to get White suburban women. Biden has been laying low recently, preparing for the event. Trump, meanwhile has been barnstorming across the country in full gripe-and-moan mode. The president spends his rallies insulting scientists and refusing any responsibility for the pandemic, which has created a huge drag on his poll numbers.
On Thursday, Joe Biden and Donald Trump will face off in the final debate. Kristen Welker, a veteran NBC News journalist, will moderate this debate. Welker will become the second Black woman to moderate a presidential debate solo. A Philadelphia native, Welker was an intern at "Today" in 1997 and graduated from Harvard College in 1998. Welker has been a White House correspondent for NBC News since 2011.
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Thursday he spent 7 days in an ICU before recovering from COVID-19. CNN reports Christie issued a statement detailing the severity of his case. It also urged people to take the pandemic seriously. Christie had coached President Donald Trump multiple times for his first debate with Democratic challenger Joe Biden. Christie tested positive a day after Trump announced he and first lady Melania Trump had both tested positive for the virus. Christie sheepishly admitted he'd made a mistake in choosing to believe the White House was a safe place, and regretted not wearing a mask at a Rose Garden event. I hope that my experience shows my fellow citizens that you should follow CDC guidelines in public no matter where you are, and wear a mask to protect yourself and others. Chris Christie
