The new Opel Astra Sports Tourer Driving Video

Description

Thanks to excellent aerodynamics as well as highly efficient new engines and transmissions, the new generation Opel Astra sets standards for efficiency and low emissions. Compared with the previous model, CO2 has been cut by up to 19 per cent, putting the Astra at the top of the compact class. The current Astra generation already ushered in a new era at its premiere and was elected European Car Of The Year 2016. With its lightweight design (200kg lighter than the predecessor) and top technologies from higher classes, the Astra set benchmarks. Opel continues to pursue this strategy with ultra-modern new generations of highly efficient and lightweight petrol and diesel engines. The 1.2-1.5-litre three-cylinder power units produce 77kW (105hp) to 107kW (145hp), making both the Opel Astra five-door and Sports Tourer real fuel-saving and CO2 champions. A counter-rotating balance shaft in the block of the three-cylinder engines offsets vibrations. The base power units already have a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. A smooth-shifting nine-speed automatic is optional.

As a result, the new Opel Astra is one of the most aerodynamic compact cars on the market. At 0.25 Cd, the Sports Tourer belongs to the estate cars with the lowest drag coefficient in the world, while the five-door leads the hatchback class at 0.26 Cd.The aero-benchmarks have been achieved through numerous measures, including an engine compartment cover, deflector-shaped rear axle control arms and a full-face shutter. The upper and lower portions of the new Astra's radiator grille automatically open and close independently of one another, further improving the frontal airflow. The underbody optimisation improves the drag coefficient by reducing turbulence.

  • New Opel Astra Sports Tourer Electric Driving Video

Opel sets standards on the way to becoming an all-electric brand and shows how the future of the estate segment looks – exciting, efficient and above all electric, without comprising estate-car talents. The Astra Sports Tourer is now fully electric for the first time in its long success story and one of the first electric estates on the market. The new Opel Astra Sports Tourer Electric offers locally emissions-free driving pleasure even for longer journeys. According to WLTP1, up to 413 kilometres can be covered without a charging stop; and that in a quiet and light-footed manner, because the new Astra Sports Tourer Electric weighs only around 1,760 kilogrammes. The new Astra Sports Tourer Electric underlines the electrifying driving pleasure with an equally inspiring, clear and bold design including the Opel Vizor brand fascia, and top equipment options. Many electronic aids are on board as standard. In addition, the Intelli-Drive 2.0 system with semi-automatic lane change assist and intelligent speed adaptation is available as an option. Comfort for the driver is enhanced by the optional AGR-certified ergonomic Active Sport seat (standard with GS trim), while the fully digital Pure Panel cockpit with two 10-inch displays and Multimedia infotainment system ensures the best in connectivity and entertainment. In addition to all-electric drive, Opel Astra Sports Tourer customers can choose from several drivetrain alternatives. • The new Opel Astra Sports Tourer Driving Video

Following the world premiere of the next-generation Astra hatchback in September, Opel has today unveiled the eagerly awaited estate model version, the all-new Astra Sports Tourer. The newcomer will be available with two levels of plug-in hybrid electric drive, making it the German carmaker’s first electrified estate. The new Astra Sports Tourer also continues Opel’s successful tradition of compact estates, which began almost 60 years ago with the Kadett Caravan, the first such car in this class from a German brand. In addition to electric drive, the new Astra Sports Tourer will be available with highly efficient petrol and diesel engines. Power ranges from 81 kW (110 hp) to 96 kW (130 hp) with the petrol and diesel variants and up to 165 kW (225 hp) system output with the electric plug-in hybrid variants. A six-speed gearbox is standard on the petrol and diesel power units, with an eight-speed automatic transmission (electrified on the plug-in hybrids) optional on the more powerful engines. With vital statistics of 4,642 x 1,860 x 1,480 millimetres (L x W x H) and a loading height of around 600 mm, the practical new Astra Sports Tourer further strengthens Opel’s leading reputation in the estate market sector and also displays the brand’s typical talent for efficient packaging. However, the overall length is 60 mm shorter than that of the previous model, thanks to the particularly short front overhang, and despite the considerably longer wheelbase of 2,732 mm (+70 mm) that is even 57 mm longer than that of the new Astra hatchback.
