Just days before a hotly contested senate runoff election, GOP Sen. David Perdue of Georgia is going into quarantine. CNN reports the Republican senator and his wife have tested negative for COVID-19. However, after coming into close contact with someone who tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the pair have chosen to self-quarantine. Perdue is campaigning in a runoff against Democrat Jon Ossoff, who has raised tens of millions of dollars in donations. Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler is also fighting to hold onto her US Senate seat in Georgia against Democrat Rev. Raphael Warnock. If Democrats win both seats, they will control the Senate next year. Any 50-50 ties will be broken by incoming Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.
President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris' have chosen a Covid-19 transition advisory board. The newly appointed team is led by established public health officials and staffed by doctors and government officials. The board is co-chaired by former FDA Commissioner Dr. David Kessler, former Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy and Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith. According to CNN, Dr. Marcells Nunez-Smith is a Yale associate professor of medicine and epidemiology. Also on the advisory board are well-known medical figures, including Dr. Zeke Emanuel, and Dr. Atul Gawand. Rounding out the board's expertise is Rick Bright, who led the government's production and purchase of vaccines.
By the time president-elect Joe Biden takes office in January, it's likely the COVID-19 crisis in the US will be even worse. Biden has already warned of a 'dark winter.' According to Business Insider, Biden made his plan to handle the pandemic back in March, and it hasn't changed much since then. First off? Testing--widely available, and completely free for all Americans. Next up: masks and lockdowns Biden says he'll work closely with governors to organize mask mandates, tailored to hot spots of disease outbreaks. After that, it'll be mending fences. Biden plans to restore the authority of the CDC and rejoin the World Health Organization. Additionally, there will be more PPE for front-line and essential workers, free COVID-19 treatment and vaccines for all Americans, and 100,000 more contact tracers.
Colonoscopies screen for colon cancer, which affects 150,000 people per year in the United States. Currently, the American Cancer Society recommends that adults begin having colonoscopies at age 45, as a part of routine cancer screening. UPI reports a new study says nearly one in eight people with private health insurance receive a 'surprise' bill after undergoing an elective colonoscopy. Researchers at the Universities of Michigan and Virginia say the average amount of these charges was more than $400. The researchers say the bills often came because of the use of out-of-network anesthesiologists and out-of-network pathologists.

Kamala Harris arrived in London the day before to attend the first global summit on the risks of AI, held at Bletchley Park. US Vice President Kamala Harris arrives in Jakarta for an ASEAN leaders summit. Indonesia is hosting the 18-nation East Asia Summit, which will include the United States, China, Japan, India and Russia.
