  • Trump Hands Out The 'Blessing' Of COVID-19 To Nine At Minnesota Rally

On September 18th, 2020, President Donald Trump held a campaign rally in Bemidji, Minnesota. Now, state health officials there say nine people who attended the event have contracted the novel coronavirus, COVID-19. Of those nine, Business Insider reports two have been hospitalized, and one is currently in an intensive care unit. Minnesota's Department of Health spokesperson Doug Schultz says the confirmed-positive people attended the event during their likely time of exposure. In response to these new infections, the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party released a statement criticizing both Trump and the state's Republican party. From the start of this pandemic, Donald Trump and Minnesota Republicans have ignored public health experts and put their re-elections ahead of the health of Minnesotans. • Chef José Andrés on US protests: People have a right not to be killed

Valencia (Spain), Jun 10 (EFE).- Chef José Andrés organized on Wednesday with his World Central Kitchen NGO a food hand out in Valencia's Mestalla stadium, where he spoke to press about Spanish politics and the protests in the US.FOOTAGE OF JOSE ANDRES.SOUNDBITES OF JOSE ANDRES.Translations: "Feet on the ground, hands up and start and cover the people's basic needs. That's what all the politicians' mission should always be. Fewer speeches, which never lead to anything, and taking more action in resolving the problems people need resolving. If this was done, Spain would be a lot better off.""I think there comes a time in which we start seeing too much that the messages we keep getting from our politicians are very rarely about unity and action. They are messages of: look how bad you are and you are even worse. I think, that in these times, people want messages of empathy, of 'I don't have the same opinion as you, but let's find common ground. I think that when it comes to hunger, everyone should be on the same page. Should any Spaniard go hungry in times like these? If a party thinks otherwise (that people shouldn't be hungry), then they should have room in Spain, full stop.""You have a right not to be killed. I think there is racism in America (US), there's racism all around the world, there's racism in Spain. What's happened in the US is brutal, because many people have died at the hands of police. It doesn't mean all police officers are bad or that all protesters are bad. When you see fire and destruction and cameras are filming it looks like a war. I would say, that in general, people (protesters) have been really good in the US and that what happened the other day with President Trump getting rid of people with rubber balls and tear gas was totally unnecessary and I was there two hours earlier and people couldn't have been more peaceful, and for a leader to appear in front of a church with a bible, which he has never opened... people are going to study that for years."

  • Bucharest marks 30 years of the 'Mineriad'

Bucharest (Romania), Jun 12 (EFE), (Camera: Robert Ghement).-Romania is to mark 30 years since some 10,000 miners, manipulated by Ion Iliescu's government, took to the streets of the country's capital to attack anti-government protesters as well as the opposition party headquarters. Today, survivors of the brutal events still call for justice.FOOTAGE AND SOUNDBITES OF VASILE ENE, PRESIDENT AND FOUNDER OF THE ASSOCIATION OF VICTIMS OF THE 1990-1991 MINERIADS:1.- "These days mark the 30th anniversary of the repression in June 1990, known as the 'Mineriad'".2.- "As victims, we created the Association of Victims of the 1990-1991 Mineriads and we opened a case thanks to a collective complaint in 1997.3.-" As the years passed the victims are still waiting for justice to be done. "4 .- "On June 13, 1990, the army and government troops evacuated the square and confirmed that there were no protesters left."5.- "But instead of closing this black chapter, they called the miners, who were received by government representatives."7 .-" More than 20,000 people came, including 10,000 miners, 5,000 of which were from the Jiu Valley. We have documents that show how the National Salvation Front (FSN) asked the Ministry of Transport to put trains to send them to Bucharest. "8.-" We can reproach Iliescu that, although the protests had faded, he asked the miners to occupy University Square. "9.-" Iliescu did nothing but send his troops to devastate Bucharest, beat the people, destroy the headquarters of the opposition parties and the newspapers and magazines which had appeared at the time. It was an attack on democracy. "10.-" I took my identity card from the miner and walked a few meters in this direction, but they hit me from behind with a stick and I lost consciousness. They hit me on the head, I had a fracture and I was paralyzed. Then they tied my hands and took me to the esplanade in front of the National Theater. "11.-" On June 13, 4 people were officially declared dead by gunshots and 18 wounded by bullets, one died of a heart attack at the University Square and one died from a knife wound near the media was."
