John Lennon And Yoko Ono's 'Bed-In' Celebrated 50 Years Later

Description

It has been 50 years since John Lennon and Yoko Ono staged their famous 'bed-in' in Amsterdam to promote world peace during the Vietnam War. According to Reuters, this week their protest will be remembered in Amsterdam with a a photo exhibit and other events. In 1969, newlyweds John Lennon and Yoko Ono skipped a honeymoon and hosted press conferences from the presidential suite atop Amsterdam’s Hilton Hotel from March 23-29. Reuters explains,, "Amid flowers and self-made signs reading “Hair Peace” and “Bed Peace”, the couple put forward a simple strategy for achieving world harmony: reject violence of all forms." Lennon, the Beatles frontman once said, “Nobody’s ever tried the peace thing.” Their actions were memorialized in “The Ballad of John and Yoko”, which came out shortly before the Beatles broke up. To honor the 50th anniversary of their 'Bed-In,' a white “Peace Tulip” will be planted outside of the Amsterdam hotel on Thursday. There will also be a film evening, concert and tour of the famous room #902.
