Pentagon Considering Request To Send 5,000 Troops To The Middle East

Description

According to a report by Reuters, on Wednesday, two US officials said that the US Department of Defense is considering a US military request to send approximately 5,000 additional troops to the Middle East amid escalating tensions with Iran. This month, rhetoric between Washington and Tehran has escalated following US President Donald Trump's decision to cut Iran's oil exports to zero and bulk up the United States' presence in the Gulf. The unnamed officials reportedly said that the request had been made by US Central Commance, but added that it remains unclear whether the Pentagon would approve the request.
