U.S. Senators Introduce Bill To Ban Social Media Companies From Tricking Users

Description

According to a report by Reuters, on Tuesday, two US Senators introduced a bill to ban online social media companies from tricking consumers into giving up their personal information. The bill, introduced by Mark Warner and Deb Fischer, would also ban online platforms with over 100 million active monthly users from designing addicting games or other websites for children under the age of 13. Reuters reports that the bill focuses on practices that online platforms use to mislead people into giving away their personal data to companies or otherwise tricks labeled "dark patterns," which were developed using behavioral psychology.
