Wet and wild: Thailand's Songkran festival makes big splash

Description

It's party time in Thailand as locals and tourists embrace the three-day new year celebration known as Songkran. Many revellers arm themselves with water pistols and protective goggles for wild water fights that bring Bangkok's streets to a standstill.

Bangkok is unusually quiet as the annual water festival - Songkran - is cancelled by Thai government and the city is under lockdown to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Alcohol sales are currently banned in the Thai capital, and public holidays have been postponed in order to discourage the wild water fights which usually fill the streets over Songkran.

    New Line is in final negotiations for a $15 million-plus deal to buy British filmmaker Gurinder Chadha’s film “Blinded by the Light.” TheWrap reports the film is about a 16-year-old British Pakistani boy in 1987 England. The boy's life is changed when his friend loans him Bruce Springsteen cassettes. Springsteen’s working-class anthems and affirming lyrics embolden him to find his own voice as a writer. The boy also stands up to the racism around him and challenge his father’s rigid ideals. The film's script is adapted from Manzoor’s memoir “Greetings From Bury Park.”

  • ‘Aquaman’ Makes Big Box Office Splash In China

    According to SF Gate, 'Aquaman' earned $93.6 million and accounted for 85 percent of all box office business at the box office in China this weekend. The film has set a new studio record for Chinese openings that’s 66% ahead of the previous one set by 'Ready Player One' earlier in 2018. It is also 92 percent higher than the Chinese opening for 'Justice League,' which marked Aquaman’s cinematic debut. The DC film next opens in 40 more international markets before arriving in the United States on December 21.
