Brexit Leads To Second Longest Parliament In UK History

Description

According to Reuters, the Brexit debate has stalled into the longest parliamentary session in three centuries. The library for the House of Commons said that the current UK Parliament is the longest-sitting legislature since the English Civil War, which broke out in the mid-1600s. Parliamentary sessions usually last a year from spring to spring, but the last election intended to have a government for two years, in order to complete the United Kingdom's exit from the European Union. But the Brexit debate has led to the second longest parliament in English history. On May 7th, the current parliament sat for it's 300th day in the House of Commons chamber.

"When it was clear that the purpose of the meeting was not to discuss substantive issues for the future, but rather to grandstand and relitigate issues of the past, it wasn't appropriate," Sunak tells the House of Commons as he addresses a diplomatic row against a backdrop of ownership claims to ancient sculptures on display at the British Museum.
