  • J.J. Redick Addresses Controversial Video

Philadelphia 76ers guard J.J. Redick landed in hot water after a video was shared in social media in which it sounded like he used an Asian slur. The video, produced by Chinese media company Tencent, showed NBA players wishing Chinese fans a happy new year. In Redick's segment, he appeared to say, "I want to wish all the NBA c---k fans in China a Happy New Year." According to SB Nation, the video showing Redick was removed by Tencent and replaced with an almost identical version without him. Fans grew mad as the video circulated, prompting two responses from Redick. He then released a statement, explaining that he got tongue-tied during the filming of the video. He said at the time of shooting, no one heard the accidental use of the slur and they did not re-shoot the segment. He said it's not a word in his vocabulary. "To all our NBA fans in China and everyone celebrating the Chinese New Year, I want to sincerely apologize to anyone I may have offended. "After a recent 76ers game, I was asked by the NBA and Tencent to record a video wishing our NBA fans in China a Happy New Year. I was glad to do it. I was intending to say 'NBA Chinese fans,' but it sounded weird in my mind, so I changed it mid-sentence to 'NBA fans in China.' It came out the wrong way. "At the time we recorded it, no one in the room — not Tencent, not the 76ers PR team and certainly not myself — heard the word that I purported to say. Had I known it sounded anything like that, I would have been mortified and recorded the greeting over again. That is not a word in my vocabulary but I now understand how it sounds on the video. "That is not who I am — as a person, a player, a husband and a father. I have been fortunate to play in two NBA Global Games in China (2007 & 2015). I loved the experience, the culture, the history, and most of all, the people. I ask your forgiveness. "This should be a time of celebration. I am so sorry for upsetting anyone."

  • New Super Mario Odyssey Trailer Leaks Game Details

In just a few weeks, the Nintendo Switch will be receiving its second blockbuster game of the year with Super Mario Odyssey. Nintendo has just released a trailer going over important details about Mario’s next adventure, from the story to new game mechanics. While new mechanics like Capture have already been announced, Nintendo has revealed that there will be two alternative game modes. The first is Assist Mode, which points players who want an easier time in the direction of where they need to go. Also, respawning from falling in the wrong spot is much more generous than the standard mode in terms of loading time and where Mario spawns. The second mode is Co-op, where one player controls Mario while the other control’s Cappy, Mario’s sentient hat. Like most first-party Nintendo games, Super Mario Odyssey will also feature Amiibo support. There are three wedding-themed Amiibos, one each for Mario, Peach, and Bowser to tie into the story of Bowser attempting to forcefully marry Peach instead of just kidnapping her. Each Amiibo, including those released prior to Odyssey, will grant Mario outfits and temporary powers. This trailer has also confirmed that all of these unlockables will be available by progressing through the game as well. For fans who have not been following Super Mario Odyssey for the past several months, this new trailer details everything you need to know before playing. Mario travels through several open worlds to try and stop Bowser, as always, but he is joined by Cappy. Cappy has powers that give Mario more ways to interact with the world like the Capture ability, which allows Mario to possess enemies or interactive items to help him find all of the Power Moons (these replace the iconic gold stars). The trailer also focuses on the snapshot mechanic and some of the mini-games. The snapshot mode will allow time to freeze, giving the player the ability to freely move the camera and take pictures with several different filters. There are some unannounced mini-games still to discover, but this new trailer shows off foot racing with Koopas, toy car racing, and jump roping. With Super Mario Odyssey‘s release date rapidly approaching, the latest trailer is a great way to catch fans up to speed on what Nintendo is shaking up in Mario’s new adventure. It answers pretty much every question that fans could have about an upcoming Mario title while showing off how much personality Nintendo has packed into the game. Super Mario Odyssey releases for Nintendo Switch on October 27.

  • Jimmy Kimmel Tears Into 'A-hole' Dentist Who Killed Cecil The Lion

Late night comedian Jimmy Kimmel got choked up Tuesday night when he summed up all the things wrong with Cecil the lion's murder in Zimbabwe earlier this month. Kimmel recounts the disgusting story of how two guides tied a dead animal to the back of their vehicle to lure the lion out of a protected park while a dentist from Minnesota, who paid over $50,000 for the trip, shot Cecil with a bow and arrow. Cecil fought for his life for 40 hours while the crew followed him, ultimately killing him and taking his head for a trophy. And it wasn't the first time, Kimmel points out, showing photos of Palmer with his previous trophies. After the public learned that Cecil had been killed and discovered that the dentist, Walter Palmer, was to blame, Palmer released a statement saying he had no idea the animal he "took" was a local favorite.

  • Hillary Clinton Says Trump Is 'Becoming ISIS's Best Recruiter'

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton took a hard stance against rhetoric from GOP frontrunner Donald Trump, painting him as a potent and powerful tool for ISIS. "He is becoming ISIS's best recruiter. They are going to people showing videos of Donald Trump insulting Islam and Muslims in order to recruit more radical jihadists," Clinton said during Saturday's Democratic debate, hosted by ABC News. When asked about her emphasis on gun control in the wake of the San Bernardino attacks, Secretary Clinton took the opportunity to bash Trump who she says is pushing the wrong narrative in the fight against ISIS. "I worry greatly that the rhetoric coming from the Republicans, particularly Donald Trump, is sending a message to Muslims here in the United States and literally around the world that there is a clash of civilizations," said Clinton, "that there is some kind of western plot or even war against Islam, which then I believe fans the flames of radicalization."
