"I am honored to be part of this year's Mille Miglia, and since 1927 the Mille Miglia has been the most demanding classic car race in Europe," explains Herbert Diess. "In honor of Bugatti's 110th birthday, I drove a Bugatti Type 35B , a true racing machine. "The "most beautiful race in the world" ended with the participation of over 450 cars - including 22 Bugattis -, with drivers of many different nationalities, with many success stories and with many departures. A Bugatti Type 40 was able to climb the podium with the 3rd place of the Mille Miglia 2019. The results, however, were secondary to the elegance of the competing automobiles and the fascination of the hundreds of thousands of spectators along the thousand-mile route. The fascination for sports cars is deeply rooted in Italian culture, especially in the so-called "Motor Valley" region, which was crossed in the last leg of the Mille Miglia. Here not only Lamborghini or Ferrari are settled, but also almost ten years of Bugatti history anchored. Close to Modena, in Campogalliano, Romano Artioli made the legendary Bugatti EB110 until 1995, before the French hyper-sports car manufacturer returned to his home country in Molsheim.
The collectibles head north through Tuscany, Mediterranean towns and landscapes: from Radicofani to Siena and Mentecatini until they finally reach Bologna, and the journey is almost over for Christian Mastro, board member for sales, marketing and customer service at Bugatti , this is a very special stage."We are a long way from home in Molsheim, yet so close to an important part of our brand history," explains Christian Mastro. "Here in the Emilia-Romagna region, in Campogalliano, in 1987, Romano Artioli brought the brand back to life with the construction of the legendary EB110, before Bugatti returned home to Molsheim at the end of the century. At the same time, this is the region in which I grew up, my home, which makes this stage of the Mille Miglia so special for me.
The Bugatti Type 35, driven by Herbert Diess, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG, who officially participates in the race, continued his rapid journey to Rome. On the sidelines of the event, Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Bugatti, drives a Chiron Sport "110 years Bugatti". "The Type 35 is a fast and elegant racing car that is comfortable to drive. He is certainly one of the most prestigious participants of this year's Mille Miglia, having won more than 2,000 races in his current time in the 1920s, "explains Stephan Winkelmann. "His successor, the Chiron, picks up these elements and proves in the Mille Miglia's curves that he has everything a Bugatti hyper sports car stands for." At the end of the day, the cars triumphantly entered the state capital. The next leg will be the return to Brescia.
