The International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi says Chernobyl's radiation levels are now "normal" after they rose during Russia's occupation of the power plant "because of the movement of the heavy equipment that the Russian forces were bringing", as the IAEA chief pays a visit to the infamous power station on the anniversary of the world's worst nuclear disaster. The United States denounces Russia's veto that ended a UN panel monitoring sanctions on North Korea, accusing Moscow of seeking to hide its growing military cooperation. "Russia's actions today have cynically undermined international peace and security, all to advance the corrupt bargain that Moscow has struck with the DPRK," State Department spokesman Matthew Miller says, referring to the North by its official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The chief of the UN's nuclear watchdog says there is no immeidate risk to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant after damage to a major dam some 150 km away in occupied Ukraine caused floods. Whilst the IAEA is aware of reports of damage at the Kakhovka dam, Director General Rafael Grossi says the watchdog's "current assessment is that there is no immediate risk to the safety of the (Zaporizhzhia) plant."
